I’m Anthony Maina. I live in South Florida, building digital experiences.
I've had a passion for design and technology ever since I was a little kid. We had a desktop computer at home that I would spend hours on playing games. It had about 3 games on it, but I would play them over and over again. My first personal laptop however, was this HP Pavilion DV6-1000 series with about 4GB of RAM and a lightning quick (at the time) Intel Core i5 processor. I loved that machine was always facinated by how it worked.
Fast forward a few years later and I was learning to code. My first real application was a simple accounting software that I built in Visual Basic. The application was pretty simple, but I spent an unreasonable amount of time on the UI and UX of it to create something that was both functional and beautiful.
Having a vivid imagination meant that I was always creating new sorts of experiences in my head. Being a software engineer meant that I could turn those ideas and experiences into reality with my own 2 hands.
The next major step was when I got my first iPhone. I was blown away by the app experiences that were possible that I could now get involved in as a developer. Keep in mind that this was the iPhone 5 so the appstore had just turned 4 years old.
By around 2017, I had built a few apps in Objective-C and Swift and was looking to get deeper into understanding the thinking behind design. I came across the High Resolution Podcast by Jared Erondu and Bobby Ghoshal. I found invaluable in understanding the thinking behind some of the most disruptive digital products of our time (Airbnb, Pinterest, IDEO, Spotify etc).
The only thing I loved more than computers as a kid was Formula 1. I've lived and breathed F1 since the Iceman's 2007 championship season through Red Bull's dominance, followed by Mercedes and now Red Bull's resurgence.
Today, I’m a Lead iOS Engineer and Engineering Manager for the mobile team at Bellhop Moving, where we’re working on revolutionizing the antiquated moving industry.
